Fifty yearsMoreThis is the first volume of the complete publication of Panskoye I, a rural settlemt in Northwestern Crime which dates from c.400-270 BC and was founded by Olbia, the most important Greek city on the northern shores of the Black Sea. Fifty years later the fortress was destroyed and the settlement was taken over by the Greek city Chersonesos Taurica which controlled Panskoye until its final destruction.

This volume publishes research results concerning a monumental building (U6) which was erected after the takeover by Chersonesos and reports on the buildings varied and rich assemblage of finds, including sculpture, pottery, lamps, coins, metalwork, glass objects and graffiti. The volume provides a useful insight into a Greek citys exploitation of its territory and the interaction between Greek settlers and local tribes, in this case the Scythians and the Taurians. Volume 2 will examine the necropolis of the settlement and the final third volume will deal with the earliest fortress.
