Excerpt: The X Factor is an Australian television reality music competition, based on the original UK series, to find new singing talent.

The second season premiered on 30 August 2010 and was won by Altiyan Childs on 22 November 2010. Ronan Keating emerged as the winning mentor of the series. The show was presented by Luke Jacobz, with spin-off show The Xtra Factor hosted by Natalie Garonzi on 7Two. It was originally to be hosted by actor Matthew Newton however he was forced to quit the series during production after re-admitting himself to rehab and Luke Jacobz was announced as his replacement.

Auditions took place throughout May and June 2010 and were held in the five major cities across Australia. It included a brand new judging panel of radio DJ Kyle Sandilands and singers Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Sebastian, and Ronan Keating with auditions being held in front of a live audience for the first time.

Following initial auditions, the Boot camp stage took place on 25 June 2010, where each judge was first given a category to mentor and had to decide on their twelve acts after day 1 and the six acts after day 2. The categories included Under 25 Boys, Under 25 Girls, Over 25s and Groups. Following Boot camp came the Judges Houses stage, where the mentors reduced their six acts to three who went on to the live finals, with one act being eliminated each week by a combination of public vote and judges decision until a winner was found.

The live shows started on 19 September 2010. The acts performed every Sunday night with the results announced on Mondays. The winners single for the series is titled Somewhere in the World. The first appeal for auditions occurred through ads during the series four finale of Aus...
